Close relationships take on a central role in a time filled with ambiguities, in which the individual moves ever more into the centre. The work "I Wish the Waves Were Easy on You" is created as a homage to friendship and to being there for each other. In friendships, we transform our view of the world and empower one another to confront and to contradict it. Friendship is thus part of a political practice, one that creates space to care for one another and to stand in solidarity.
The work stays close to the moments it comes from. Its gaze turns not towards something general but towards the friendships of these years, as an attempt to hold on to shared vulnerability and closeness. As Roland Barthes reminds us, a photograph testifies to what has been; it holds both presence and loss in the same image. There is no claim to a beginning or an end in the images; rather, they accumulate like thoughts in a diary. What happens in the small and the private becomes legible here as something that holds.
The photo essay does not set out to document these friendships directly. What remains is not the moments themselves but their traces. Rather than reaching for documentary precision, the work turns towards abstraction.
